HUMAN INTELLIGENCE
Human Cognition and Interaction with Intelligent Systems
What is human intelligence, and how does it operate? What is happening to our cognition as we interact with intelligent systems?
This Think Lab focuses on understanding human intelligence and how interaction with intelligent systems is transforming the ways we attend, learn, understand, judge, decide, and act. It explores both the new cognitive capacities that this interaction may enable and the risks of dependence, delegation, and loss of agency.
WHAT WE ARE SEEKING TO UNDERSTAND
We seek to understand human intelligence and examine the conditions that make human cognition possible as it unfolds in environments saturated with artificial intelligence. This is not only about studying the tools themselves, but about observing how our own cognitive structure—how we attend, understand, judge and decide—is being reconfigured through constant interaction with systems that not only process data, but also mediate our relationship with reality.
Judgment and cognitive delegation
Research on the transfer of critical capacities to algorithmic systems and the impact on human autonomy.
Learning and augmented cognitive systems
Exploration of extended cognition and how technological interfaces reconfigure our learning processes.
Attention, understanding and decision
Analysis of attention economies and technological mediation in complex decision-making.
Human agency and technological dependence
Study of the limits of technical intervention and the preservation of will in ubiquitous intelligence environments.
