What are we becoming collectively?
We examine how the expansion of intelligent systems is transforming knowledge, work, the economy, institutions, and everyday life. We explore the new forms of social organization that emerge as algorithmic intelligence begins to become a transversal capacity of society.
WHAT WE ARE STRIVING TO UNDERSTAND
We seek to understand if the expansion of artificial intelligence and converging technologies is producing something deeper than a technological transformation: a modification of the structures through which societies know, produce, decide, organize, and act. We investigate these transformations as possible signs of a civilizational change and the new configurations of power, knowledge, and institutions that are beginning to emerge.
Technological convergence
Research on the convergence between artificial intelligence, biotechnology, information technologies, and cognitive sciences, and their cumulative effects on society.
Transformation of knowledge and work
Study of how intelligent systems modify the production of knowledge, research, professions, and the forms of work organization.
Institutions, power, and governance
Analysis of the new capacities for coordination, decision, and control that emerge when algorithmic systems are integrated into public and private institutions.
Civilizational change
Exploration of the social, economic, and cultural transformations that could indicate the emergence of a new civilizational configuration.
